U.S. travel has never felt more rewarding. There’s something deeply satisfying about finding a place that feels both new and nostalgic. You get all of it without crossing an ocean. We see it every time guests check in: that mix of anticipation and surprise is unmistakable. They’re always amazed at how much St. Augustine offers in such a compact, walkable space.
Step onto St. George Street and you’re instantly surrounded by history, energy, and a sense of wonder. This pedestrian-only lane runs right through the heart of the Old City. You’ll pass stone walls, colonial buildings, and bakeries scented with cinnamon. Shopkeepers often share stories, too. One moment, you’re grabbing a coffee; the next, you're chatting with a costumed guide or hearing a local legend. It’s one of those rare spots that invites you to slow down and take it all in — no itinerary required
A City Shaped by Centuries
Some of the oldest European architecture in the U.S. sits right here in our neighborhood. St. Augustine’s story began in 1565. Pedro Menendez de Aviles founded it under Spanish rule. His mission was more than strategic. It was spiritual, political, and deeply personal. That layered purpose still echoes in the buildings and stories you’ll hear today.
We often point guests toward the Mission Nombre de Dios. It’s the site of the first Thanksgiving Mass in what is now the continental United States. You can walk the same grounds where settlers gave thanks. Not far from there, you’ll find the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, a tribute to both legend and legacy.
St. Augustine predates Jamestown and Santa Fe. You’ll feel that weight of history in every stone path and coquina wall. It’s more than a fact on a sign — it’s something you’ll feel as you explore the town. This is Europe’s and Spain’s past, carefully folded into America’s present — right here in Florida.
Is St. Augustine Worth Visiting?
Step into the Colonial Quarter, and you’ll feel like you’ve entered another century. This lively area tells the story of the city’s earliest days. Costumed historians bring the 1740s to life with hands-on demonstrations. You’ll see blacksmiths, candle-makers, and carpenters at work, all surrounded by original buildings and recreations. We always recommend a stop at the Government House Museum to learn more about colonial life in La Florida.
You’ll want to bring your appetite. One of our favorite spots for fresh seafood is Catch 27. It’s tucked along Hypolita Street and features fish caught by local anglers. Their seasonal dishes are made from scratch and served with authentic Old City charm.
Need some sun and open space? Head just east to Anastasia State Park. It’s a peaceful, natural escape filled with mangroves, marshes, and beaches. You can hike, swim, paddleboard, or simply enjoy the ocean breeze.
Local Dining Just Steps Away
One great part of staying in a historic inn is how close you are to downtown dining. Like many European old towns, dozens of restaurants sit just a short walk from your room. Step outside, and you'll find a table and menu waiting just minutes from your door.
Downtown St. Augustine's restaurants offer more than meals — they serve atmosphere, artistry, and unforgettable flavor. Guests enjoy fresh, local ingredients paired with live music and breezy patios. No matter your craving, there's something to satisfy every palate, even picky eaters.
Many restaurants are locally owned. Their menus often feature farm-to-table or sea-to-table freshness. Try a datil pepper-spiced entrée for something bold. Or go with a world-class pizza instead. We love how each restaurant shows off its personality. You'll feel it in every bite and space.
