Forbes Magazine is out with its list of “Prettiest Towns in America,” and lo and behold, St Augustine is among those on that list. The top-ten list was published on April 2, 2012 with St Augustine joining towns likeTaos, New Mexico and Key West, Florida as some of America’s most beautiful places. In its description, Forbes says that “the town’s picturesque historic district is full of old-world atmosphere, historic homes, and is easily explored on foot. Forbes’ article describes the Castillo de San Marcos in depth and the long history of our city. Special notes are made regarding our town retaining much of its Spanish past in some of its homes and larger architecture. The Forbes listing also takes a jab at Jamestown noting St. Augustine as the oldest city in the US occupied by Europeans. Other towns making this year’s list besides St. Augustine, Key West, and Taos include Newport, Rhode Island, Old San Juan, Puerto Rico,Gatlinburg,Tennessee, Columbus, Indiana, San Luis Obispo,California, and Tarrytown, New York.
