St. Augustine is not only a historical city, but also a shopping destination. Evident in the boutiques lining the quaint cobblestone streets, the art galleries occupying each corner, and niche-market stores unique to our east coast beach town. Whether you’re on a vacation, staycation, or just out and about in St. Augustine, your trip to the Nation’s Oldest City would not be the same without a tour of our boutiques, galleries, and local shops.
A quick drive over the Bridge of Lions will greet you with locally-sourced chocolate stores, St. Augustine inspired galleries, the latest in surf gear, and trendy designer boutiques.
Begin your journey at Rochelle’s, a hippy boutique located just over the bridge. The small box-shaped store is a hotspot for dozens of print designs, bohemian styled attire, linen beach pants and accessories that will pair perfectly with any new purchases. Choose from your pick of hemp and leather-strap bracelets, Stirling silver and beaded rings, and more.
But Rochelle’s is only a small part of the shopping scene on the island. You could spend the entire day only exploring the unique shops Anastasia has to offer. For tasty souvenirs and late-night snacks visit Whetstones Chocolate; take a piece of St. Augustine home with you when you shop at Tre Sebastian, which is full of home beach décor and figurines; brighten up your living space with stained glass, wall pieces, and paintings from Hightide Gallery.
Lastly, further south on A1A are two offbeat stores that are well worth the three-minute cruise it takes to get there. Leonardi’s Nursery is a plant lover’s heaven with an emphasis on garden plants versus houseplants. The plant outlet is lined wall to wall with exotic Floridian plants as well as high-end flowers. Pick a bright addition for your garden, dining room, or patio, but don’t forget a planter! You’ll find pots big enough to fit a small oak tree, large hanging holders, and printed pots with bright colors. Next, travel about half a mile further south to Vintage Warehouse for wonderful accessories to pair with your new plant. You’ll never find two of the same items here, from rustic corner stands to primitive iron chairs.
In the quaint cobblestone streets of the Historic District of St. Augustine, you’ll find there is much more to discover than only history and attractions. In fact, the best of shopping can be found parallel to historical sites. Whether you’re in the market for handcrafted wood pieces, locally-sourced paintings, or a special gift for your fur-friend from Faux Paws, the boutiques, and shops of downtown will surely satisfy your shopping cravings.
Although many of these wonderful places are hidden in the narrow streets of the Nation’s Oldest City, don’t forget about the shops along King Street. Take a piece of St. Augustine home with you when you buy pleasant fragranced shower bombs from Antoinette’s Bath House; support efforts to care for the community’s sheltered animals when you purchase from Ayla’s Acres No-Kill Animal Rescue Thrift Shop; pamper your taste buds with rich chocolate from Whetstones Chocolate Store – we recommend you get the Dark Chocolate Espresso Liqueur Sauce.
There are so many wonderful boutiques, décor shops, souvenir shops and more throughout downtown which allow for an endless hour of roaming and indulging in small businesses and Floridian culture.
St. Augustine Premium Outlets
The St. Augustine Premium Outlets are located close to I95 ramps on 16 and only a few miles from Historic Downtown. A variety of brands are located there making it a perfect place to find your favorite staple pieces that you may not find at boutiques. From fan favorites like Ralph Lauren and Converse to stores like Book Warehouse Kids and Brighton, there is truly something here for everyone. Enjoy your time walking from store to store in the Florida breeze, and if you get hungry to make a pit stop at Auntie Anne’s for pretzels and smoothies.
Uptown San Marco
Uptown San Marco (Uptown) is the few blocks downtown between Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Museum and the J&S Carousel. It is best known for its monthly party called “Uptown Saturday Night,” which is on the last Saturday of each month. If you’re in town during this time, we highly suggest you visit!
Uptown is home to several of St. Augustine’s most creative minds, boutiques, thrift stores, and other stylish retail finds. This is the perfect spot to find quality items for yourself, you deserve it!
You’ll find: eccentric leather bags and “organic geometry” throw pillows at Obscura; hip souvenirs like hats, buttons, and t-shirts for your grandchildren or children back home at Declaration & Co; paintings by a St. Augustine local that were inspired by St. Augustine at Jenna Alexander’s studio. The artistic, creative and quality items you’ll find are endless.
