St. Augustine’s long list of attractions and endless things to do is part of its charm; from rotating free art exhibits to hosting numerous festivals each year, repeat visitors and longtime locals can always look forward to trying new things.
A day out and about might mean exploring a new restaurant on St. Augustine Beach, visiting the City’s kid-friendly museums, or spending the day celebrating a holiday like the 4th of July! While those traditional activities provide endless opportunities for fun, these offbeat things to do are just as suited to keep the good times going!
Explore St. Augustine’s Offbeat History
Location: Old St. Augustine History Museum
Despite hundreds of people driving and walking by each day, this offbeat thing to do is often overlooked. While many travelers and locals are unaware of its existence, visitors of it’s neighboring attraction often stumble upon it after a tour at the Old Jail in search of souvenirs.
Tucked in the back corner of Gator Bob’s is a St. Augustine gem: the Old St. Augustine History Museum. Although you will surely find replicas of 1600 Spanish ships and cannons, many of the items on display are from St. Augustine’s modern history! From an 1850-century replica of a Conestoga wagon to a vintage Ford truck to a mayonnaise hand mixer from 1890, the museum is sure to give you nostalgia feels since visitors may have used a few of these items themselves.
TNT Old Time Photo
Location: TNT Old Time Photo
Nothing will memorialize your vacation or staycation in St. Augustine like a photo shoot at TNT Old Time Photo. Opening in February of 2018, TNT is meeting the local demand for offbeat family photo shoots. Dress up in your slops and trousers, grab your props, and say cheese! With over one hundred costumes varying from saloon girls and gunslinging cowboys to a charming southern couple to gangsters, flappers, and jailbirds! This is just the oddball activity to celebrate your bachelorette party, anniversary, vacation or just another day in the Nation’s Oldest City.
Location: Alligator Farm Zoological Park
Ziplining at the Alligator Farm Zoological Park is a fan favorite of locals and travelers alike. Swing through giant oak trees, side by side exotic birds, and only a few feet over live alligators and crocodiles for a truly exhilarating adventure. Of course, the Alligator Farm makes every effort to ensure a safe and exciting journey over the park. While some daredevils choose to fly over live predators, others may find ziplining exciting enough! In that case, skip the Alligator Farm and zip through the canopies at ZIPStream’s Castaway.
Wolf’s Museum of Mystery
Walking along Charlotte Street you might have noticed a two-story greenhouse with a painting of infamous Lizzie Borden hanging from the front porch. This residential home is also Wolf’s Museum of Mystery; an oddball museum with a unique array of galleries such as the Mermaid Lair, the Shotgunned Sasquatch Exhibit, and a Fortune Telling Nook. If you’ve visited Ripley’s Believe it or Not! and have thoroughly enjoyed the bizarre oddities, this is just the offbeat adventure for you.
