Monthy Inn Spotlight – The Saragossa / At Journey’s End

We are so fortunate in Saint Augustine to have inns that have something for everyone. They are all different and you’ll be able to find just the kind of bed and breakfast that is right for you. This month we are spotlighting two inns that are very different, one a 1924 Sears Craftsman home with many period original pieces and a the other a contemporary boutique inn with an ultra modern spa shower.

This 1924 Sears Craftsman home is located very close to the Old Town area but not right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the town. It’s only a couple of leisurely blocks walk to Cordova St and all of the things to do in Saint Augustine.  The Saragossa Inn specializes in Privacy! With each room having a private entrance via a porch or deck you are ensured complete privacy during your stay with them. They won’t even come in to clean unless you ask.

Each room is different and offers something for everyone. The Innkeepers, Gibbs and Chuck have painstakingly maintained the home to keep the historical integrity of the building. There have been changes over the years, and each change is taken into consideration during upkeep. The vintage claw foot tub in one room is original, as are some of the other period pieces that you will find throughout this quaint and cozy inn. Some of their guests have described it as “just like staying at Grandma’s house.” That is how much at home you’ll feel when you stay here. Each room has cable television, Wi-Fi and in room coffee service available to the guest. Check their website to see all of the amenities that they provide.

Now for the Breakfast part of this Bed & Breakfast… well, it’s really Brunch.  Gibbs is gourmet chef! Select your seating at 9:30am or 10:30am and enjoy a three-course gourmet brunch. Have dietary restrictions? They can help. Chuck is a dietitian and helps Gibbs to prepare the most amazing brunch just for you.

Want to bring along your children or pets? Well-behaved children of any age are welcome at the Saragossa Inn, as are well-behaved pets of any age or size. Please check with the inn prior to booking to inform them of children or pets.

Meet Your Innkeepers

Gibbs was an innkeeper for many years in Bucks County, NY. He left inn keeping and when he and Chuck decided to get back into it, they found Saint Augustine, Florida! They fell in love with the area, the beaches and the people. In their search for the right property, they found the Saragossa Inn. Much in need of some TLC, Gibbs and Chuck have been working on it ever since. The inn is incredible and one that you have to see to appreciate. You’ll find Gibbs normally at the Inn. Chuck’s job keeps him out of the Inn most of the time but you will see him when you visit. What do Gibbs and Chuck do during their off time? They love to camp. This past summer they took a camping trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The other person that you will meet when you visit is the Assistant Innkeeper, Cheri. Her love for St. Augustine shines! On her off time, she loves to take in all that there is to see and do in the area. Cheri says that she doesn’t have to go on vacation anywhere because she’s living it here. She says that you have to be careful when you visit St. Augustine, because the city has a way of wrapping her arms around you and not letting go. You’ll be coming back for years to come. Some of the guests of the Saragossa Inn have met in St Augustine, got married here, come back for anniversaries and then bring their children back to the Saragossa Inn. Gibbs and Chuck love watching their guest’s families grow up right in front of them. They are even known as Uncle Gibbs and Uncle Chuck to some of the children.

When you stay at the Saragossa Inn, you become one of the family. They hope to see you soon at the Saragossa Inn.

Meet Your Innkeepers

Innkeepers, John Gallagher and Tim Millbern had originally planned on buying an inn in Cape Cod, but the purchase fell through. Tim’s sister had retired to Saint Augustine and told them to come and have a look here. They loved the wonderful B&B community in St. Augustine and the town itself had everything that they wanted. They felt so fortunate when they found At Journey’s End. They have been the innkeepers here for 5 years.

John continues to work for Delta Airlines and Tim had been a CEO for a not for profit with inner city kids before taking on inn keeping full time.

Tim and John are very focused on the daily needs of the inn, but during what down time they do have, Tim and John enjoy exploring Saint Augustine’s restaurants, attractions and music scene. They have two wonderful assistants that help with the day-to-day duties around the inn that also gives them time to discover the wonderful beaches in St. Augustine as well.

Tim and John want you to know “At Journey’s End Bed and Breakfast is where you arrive as a guest, but you leave as our friend.”
