We know that everyone is probably got “Visit St. Augustine, FL” on the resolution list this year. Why? You ask? Well… it is our 450th birthday this year. There will be some fun things going on throughout the year and a huge reenactment during the weekend prior September 8th (our official birthday). Springtime and festivals! This is the time of year for it. St. Augustine has lots of festivals. Join us for some fun on Feb. 27-March 1 for the 30th Annual Cathedral Festival. Check out their website for more info. http://thecathedralfestival.com/
One of the best is the St. Augustine Celtic Music & Heritage Festival that takes place March 13-15: with bands that this year that include Albannach, The Dublin City Ramblers, Rathkeltair, Searson, Whisky of the Damned, Poor Angus, and Makem & Spain. The festival is held at Francis Field, 29 W. Castillo Drive with other music and shenanigans at the Irish and British pubs around town.
Moving on to April 10-12, it’s the 20th Annual Rhythm & Ribs Festival — Barbecue vendors and competition, live music, kids zone and Kiss the Pig. The entertainment lineup each year is fantastic. The Rhythm & Ribs Festival is held at Francis Field, 29 W. Castillo Drive
A popular festival for the photographer is April 22-26. The 13th Annual Florida’s Birding and Photo Fest boasts more than 110 birding and outdoor photography events in St. Johns County and surrounding locations. Fall finds our 450th Celebration and the haunted past of St. Augustine.
We go into much more depth with the 450th Celebration in a couple of weeks and we will update that article as more events are added. Friday, September 4, 2015 is the big Kick off to Celebrate 450! We start with a Music & Street Festival which continues all weekend. On Sunday, EMMA Concert Association presents a Spanish Music and Dance Performance throughout the day at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. Fireworks over the Matanzas River will end the evening. Monday a Cake Cutting and Tuesday is the Pedro Menéndez Landing Re-Enactment, Procession, Mass and more.
