Rainy Day Itineraries in St. Augustine

Hurricane Season in Florida runs from June 1 through November 30 which means that rainy days are among us in Northeast Florida – and with that comes a few challenges to vacationers. While nobody enjoys seeing grey clouds move in on their sunshiny day, don’t worry if there are a few rainy days forecasted during your stay.

It’s raining. It’s pouring. The Old City is boring…

Wait a minute, that’s not true! There is plenty to do in St. Augustine when it rains.

Shaded Sightseeing

Experience: What better way to stay out of the rain while getting outside than with an Old Town Trolley or Red Train Sightseeing Tour? Get your dosage of beautiful sites in St. Augustine all while be shaded in an open-air vehicle. Hot tip: Old Town Trolley often offers ponchos to riders during bad weather.

Restaurant: Lunch with a view anyone? Just because your sightseeing tour is over doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in more beautiful sites. Head over to O.C. White’s Restaurant for covered patio seating with a view of Historic Downtown St. Augustine.

Sheltered Shopping

Experience: On rainy days, you can’t depend on sunshine to fill your soul with happiness, but you can always depend on shopping to do the trick! The St. Augustine community largely supports shopping at locally owned boutiques and shops. However, if you are going to shop with big brands, a rainy day is the perfect occasion. Head over to the St. Augustine Premium Outlets for a covered, outdoor mall; Or head to the St. Augustine Indoor Mall for completely covered shopping.

Restaurant: After a day of shopping, fueling up is a must! On your way back to the Historic District, stop for lunch at Schooner’s Seafood House or Smokin’ D’s BBQ to replenish your energy AND to get back on track to supporting locally owned businesses.

Umbrella-ed Tourism

During Hurricane Season, Northeast Florida certainly experiences severe tropical storms, lightning, and thunder. However, oftentimes rain clouds tend to clear up just a little while after they come rolling in. In these cases, we suggest going on with your daily plans despite the rain! After all, a light drizzle can feel good after some time under the hot Florida sun.
