In 1883, Franklin W. Smith, an architect and merchant from Boston, built his winter home, the Villa Zorayda. He utilized architectural details from the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain to create a stunning Moorish Revival style home in the heart of St. Augustine.
Today the Villa Zorayda Museum houses an impressive art and antique collection from places around the world. Self guided audio tours in English, Spanish, and French are offered daily.
Learn about the Zorayda’s lively 135 years of history including the building’s importance to St. Augustine, details about its design and construction, memories from its time as a gambling casino, restaurant, and speakeasy, and information about the impressive 98% original art and antique collection from both of the Zorayda’s two owners.
Evening Candlelight Tours are offered on select nights during St. Augustine’s “Nights of Lights” celebration.
