The St. Augustine Historic Inns (SAHI) association has delivered a $10,000 donation to The St. Augustine Record’s Empty Stocking Fund, the single-largest donation to the annual holiday charity.

Dave Brezing, president of the 26-inn association of bed and breakfasts, presented the check last week to St. Augustine Record publisher Ron Davidson. The inns raised the money through ticket sales for its two-day Holiday Tour of Inns, Dec. 11 and 12.

SAHI was joined in the fund-raiser by more than two-dozen restaurant partners, along with corporate sponsors, including Herbie Wiles Insurance, Winn-Dixie, Old Town Trolley Tours and The Record.

More than 800 visitors took the 17th annual tour, which featured food, music and holiday decorations at the historic B&Bs scattered throughout the city. The tour merited inclusion in the Southeast Tourism Society’s prestigious list of Top 20 holiday events.

"We are grateful for the generosity of our sponsors and advertisers, and for the joyful support of our holiday tour visitors. We tend to open our hearts to giving at holiday time, but it’s important to remember the need is here all year," said Brezing, who owns Our House of St. Augustine Bed and Breakfast. The tour is held the second weekend in December. Information is at

Davidson pointed out that the administration of the Empty Stocking Fund donations is done entirely in-house, so 100 percent goes to the families who need help.
