Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Museum in St. Augustine FL
In most all of the popular vacation spots throughout the country, vacationers will find a Ripley’s Believe it or Not! museum and St. Augustine Fla is no different; however the Old City’s Ripley’s St Augustine Attraction is more unique than the others. Housed inside the Castle Warden, a beautifully restored 1887 Moorish revival style home, the St Augustine Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Museum offers a bit of history on St Augustine Fla, much like the other attractions in the area, and is also filled with the oddities and unbelievable artifacts that Robert Ripley amassed.

The Castle Warden was built as a winter home for William G. Warden, who was a business partner of John D. Rockefeller and Henry Flagler. After Warden died, the beautiful mansion was sold to Norton Baskin and his wife, Pulitzer prize winning novelist Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who is famous for writing The Yearling. The couple operated a hotel out of the building, and it was known as the Castle Warden during this time. What is interesting to note is that Robert Ripley, the famous explorer, anthropologist, and cartoonist, stayed at the Castle Warden several times during this time, and during his visits he often remarked that the Castle Warden would be a fantastic location to showcase his collection. In 1950, just after Ripley’s death in 1949, his dreams of a Ripley’s St. Augustine Museum came true. Since that time his collection in St Augustine Fla has remained at the Castle Warden museum location.
