Join in the 16th century Noche de Gala, the birthday celebration honoring don Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, the founder of our Nation’s Oldest City, St. Augustine.

The celebration begins on Saturday, February 26 at 5:00 p.m. with a grand and exciting procession through downtown St. Augustine to announce the arrival of Menéndez who is accompanied by his colorful entourage. Starting at the City Gate, Menéndez will lead the procession down St. George Street to the front of the Lightner Museum, engaging the town folks as he inspects his colony and prepares to enjoy his birthday celebration, Noche de Gala.

Galleries, antique stores and unique shops on St. Augustine's San Marco Avenue between Ripley's Museum and the Mission of Nombre de Dios remain open from 5 to 9 p.m. and feature book signings, live music, refreshments and other activities. The Mission of Nombre de Dios provides FREE PARKING.

Learn about the history of militia when soldiers, veterans and reenactors present a living history military salute. This timeline presentation stretches from 1513 to modern day with demonstrations and exhibits featuring military uniforms, weapons and equipment.
