St. Augustine B&Bs serve up $6,000 to Empty Stocking Fund

The St. Augustine Historic Inns (SAHI) Association's $6,000 donation to the 2009 St. Augustine Record's Empty Stocking Fund was the single-largest donation to the annual holiday charity this year.

The Association of 26 Bed and Breakfasts raised the money through ticket sales for its two-day Holiday Tour of Inns, held in mid-December. SAHI was joined in the effort by returning corporate sponsors Old Town Trolley, Herbie Wiles Insurance, Old City.com and new sponsors Winn Dixie Stores, and philanthropist Peggy Henry. The St. Augustine Record’s marketing manager Lynne Carter joined SAHI as the driving force behind this important community outreach effort.

"SAHI is truly grateful for the generosity of our sponsors and advertisers and for the enthusiasm of our holiday tour visitors. Every ticket sold helps make a difference for local families in need," said SAHI Holiday Tour chair Cyndi Humphrey, owner of Cedar House Inn. The inns opened their doors to 500 visitors during the 2009 tour, each enjoying signature treats from local restaurant partners and the talents of several local artists.

SAHI president Dave Brezing, owner of Our House of St. Augustine Bed and Breakfast, added, "Not only has the 16-year-old tour become a festive holiday tradition, but it also has a huge financial impact on our community. Over the past three years SAHI has raised more than $35,000 benefiting the St. Augustine Record’s Empty Stocking Fund.”
